Fincher earns Director Gold Credential
Phillip “Butch” Fincher, who serves on the board of directors at Claiborne Electric Cooperative, has earned the Director Gold Credential from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), the national service organization of America’s electric cooperatives.
The Director Gold Credential is the highest level of education and recognition for electric cooperative directors nationwide. NRECA offers the Director Gold Credential to help electric co-op directors comply with applicable laws, understand evolving member needs and technologies, and apply leading governance practices.
Before beginning work on his Director Gold Credential, Fincher earned his Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate in 2007 and his Board Leadership Certificate in 2013. He will continue to earn education credits through NRECA programs to maintain his Director Gold Credential.
The Director Gold Credential recognizes directors who commit themselves to continuing education in subjects important to a co-op’s mission. Recipients first had to complete a core set of five courses, followed by a variety of electives in topics ranging from financing to technology innovation.
“Continuing education is essential for every department at Claiborne Electric, including our Board of Directors. We’re extremely proud that Dr. Fincher has received this well-deserved recognition,” said Claiborne Electric General Manager and CEO Mark Brown. “He has consistently demonstrated the highest level of commitment to our cooperative and the members we serve.”
Fincher represents District Seven of Claiborne Electric’s service area. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2004. He is a retired professor of economics at Louisiana Tech University, and serves on the North Louisiana Board of Directors at First Guaranty Bank.
The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association is the national service organization that represents the nation’s more than 900 not-for-profit, consumer-owned electric cooperatives, which provide service to 42 million people in 47 states.
