Broadband Project FAQs

Q: Is Claiborne Electric providing broadband or internet service?
A: No. Claiborne Electric is an electric cooperative and does not provide broadband or internet service. The broadband project in our service area is led by Conexon, a separate company.

Q: Is Claiborne Electric a partner with Conexon on the broadband project?
A: No. Claiborne Electric and Conexon are separate companies. Claiborne Electric is not a partner in Conexon’s broadband project.

Q: What has Claiborne Electric’s role been?
A: Claiborne Electric owns electric poles throughout its service territory. Our role has been limited to reviewing requests from Conexon to attach fiber to Cooperative-owned poles and ensuring any proposed work meets safety and electric system requirements.

Q: What is the current status of the broadband project involving Claiborne Electric’s poles?
A: At this time, the broadband project is moving forward through Claiborne Electric’s system at a pace much slower than promised.

Q: Does Claiborne Electric determine when broadband service will be available in my area?
A: No. Claiborne Electric does not control Conexon’s construction schedule, service areas or timeline for making broadband available.

Q: Why can’t Claiborne Electric provide a completion date?
A: The broadband construction schedule is controlled by Conexon, not Claiborne Electric. Because ClaiborneElectric is not the broadband provider, we cannot provide a timeline for when internet service may become available.

Q: Why does Claiborne Electric review fiber attachments to its poles?
A: Our first responsibility is the safety and reliability of the electric system. Any company requesting to placeequipment on Cooperative-owned poles must meet applicable safety and engineering requirements.

Q: Will Claiborne Electric provide updates about Conexon’s broadband project?
A: Because Claiborne Electric does not control the broadband project, questions about its status, construction plans and future availability should be directed to Conexon.

Q: Who should I contact about broadband service or availability?
A: Members with questions about Conexon’s broadband service, construction plans or availability should contact Conexon directly at 1-844-542-6663 or visit its website.
